About the event

The largest democratic gathering on the African continent, held every three years by United Cities and Local Governments of Africa (UCLG Africa) in partnership with the Government of Kenya, the Council of Governors, and Kisumu County. In May 2022, Kisumu became the first intermediary city ever to host the summit, under the theme "The Role of Intermediary Cities of Africa in the Implementation of Agenda 2030 of the United Nations and the African Union Agenda 2063." The 9th edition drew 11,000+ registered delegates from 100 countries, including 53 African nations, a record surpassing the previous high of 8,300 delegates set in Marrakesh in 2018, and closed with the formal Kisumu Declaration adopted by delegates. The IMC People Ltd served as the local agency delivering communications and presidential protocol support, running press operations across Nairobi and Kisumu for the full pre-summit, live, and post-summit cycle.
