Sustainable Blue Economy Conference
The world's first global summit on the sustainable blue economy, co-hosted by Kenya, Canada, and Japan
Held from 26 to 28 November 2018 at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre, the Sustainable Blue Economy Conference was the world's first global summit dedicated entirely to the sustainable blue economy, harnessing the potential of oceans, seas, lakes, and rivers to improve lives while conserving water resources for future generations. Convened at the invitation of President Uhuru Kenyatta and co-hosted by the Governments of Kenya, Canada, and Japan, the three day conference drew heads of state, government representatives, and civil society organizations from 184 countries under the theme "The Blue Economy and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development." The IMC People organized the conference, delivering event execution and communications support at a scale that placed Kenya at the centre of a new global conversation on ocean and water based economies.
The conference closed with the Nairobi Statement of Intent on Advancing the Global Sustainable Blue Economy, alongside a series of leaders' commitments spanning marine protection, plastics and waste management, and sustainable fisheries, cementing Nairobi's role in shaping how the world approaches its waters.
